How Commissions Work and When You're Paid

Video 5.3 — The Commission Structure — coming soon to the Lens tab.

You want to know exactly how much you earn, when it arrives, and what can cause it to change. This article covers every part of the commission structure — rates, windows, payouts, clawbacks, and taxes — so there are no surprises.

Commission rates

The standard commission rate is 30% of each paid month for every subscriber you refer, within a 6-month window per subscriber. When you reach 100 active referrals, your account automatically upgrades to the Licensed Partner tier, and your commission rate increases to 35% — retroactively applied to your active referrals going forward.

The 6-month commission window

The 6-month window starts from the subscriber's first payment date, not their signup date. If someone signs up in January but doesn't start a paid plan until March, your 6-month window starts in March. You earn commission on every month they pay within that 6-month period, up to six payments total per subscriber.

Monthly payout schedule

Commissions are paid on a net-30 basis from the end of the calendar month. Earnings from April, for example, are transferred in late May. The minimum payout threshold is $25 — if your balance hasn't hit $25 by the end of the month, it rolls over to the following month until the threshold is met.

Stripe Connect Express

UVettd uses Stripe Connect Express for all partner payouts. You connect your own Stripe account in the dashboard — UVettd sends transfers directly to it. There is no middleman holding your funds. Your Stripe account belongs to you regardless of your partner status. If you haven't connected Stripe yet, go to Dashboard → Commission + Stripe Connect → Connect Stripe Account.

Refund clawbacks

UVettd offers a 14-day refund window to subscribers. If a subscriber you referred cancels and receives a refund within 14 days of their first payment, the associated commission is reversed from your account. After 14 days, the refund window closes, the commission is locked, and it won't be reversed — even if the subscriber cancels their plan later.

Chargeback clawbacks

If a subscriber initiates a chargeback with their bank or card issuer, the commission on that transaction is always reversed. This applies regardless of timing and is non-negotiable. Chargeback clawbacks protect the integrity of the program and the payout system for all partners. There is no appeal process for chargeback reversals.

Taxes and 1099-K reporting

Stripe issues a 1099-K to partners who meet the IRS reporting threshold for the calendar year. Tax reporting is your responsibility — UVettd does not provide tax advice and is not responsible for your tax obligations. If you have questions about how affiliate income is taxed, consult a tax professional. Make sure your Stripe account has accurate tax information on file before you hit the threshold.

Common questions about this topic

What if a subscriber I referred cancels after one month?
You earned commission on that one month. If the cancellation happened after the 14-day refund window, that commission is locked and won't be reversed. If the subscriber came back later and resubscribed, they would not re-enter your commission window — each subscriber has one 6-month window tied to their first payment.
When exactly does the 6-month window start?
It starts from the subscriber's first payment date, not the date they signed up. If there's a gap between signup and first payment, the window begins when money actually changes hands. You can see the window start date for each referred subscriber in the Commission tab.
How do I connect my Stripe account?
Go to your Dashboard and open the Commission + Stripe Connect tab. Click Connect Stripe Account and follow the Stripe Express onboarding steps. The process takes about five minutes. Once connected, all future payouts transfer automatically on the net-30 schedule.
What happens if my commission balance is under $25 at month end?
It rolls over to the next month automatically. Nothing is lost — it just accumulates until the $25 minimum is reached, at which point the full balance pays out on the next net-30 cycle.
Can my commission rate go back down from 35% to 30%?
Yes, if your active referral count drops below 100. "Active referrals" means subscribers currently on a paid plan within their 6-month commission window. If churn brings you below the Licensed threshold, your rate reverts to 30% on future earnings. The Commission tab shows your current active referral count.
