Video 4.3 — When to Seek Professional Support — coming soon to the Lens tab.

You've noticed a suggestion in your combined report about working with a professional, and you want to understand what it means — and what it doesn't mean.

What Triggers the Suggestion

Chosen surfaces a professional support suggestion under one specific condition: the same thorn category has been flagged by both partners independently, across three or more consecutive check-in cycles, and the pattern has not resolved on its own.

That's a meaningful signal — not because something is wrong, but because some patterns respond better to a skilled human voice in the room than to continued self-reflection alone. The suggestion isn't reactive to a single hard check-in. It takes time and repetition before it appears.

Where the Suggestion Appears

The suggestion shows up inline in your combined report — quietly, in context, as part of the Growth Zone section. It does not appear as a push notification. It's not a standalone email. It appears once, when the pattern threshold is met, as a natural part of reading through your report together.

What the Suggestion Says

When the pattern threshold is met, you'll see language like this in your combined report:

"This pattern has appeared consistently across your last [N] check-ins. Some patterns respond well to a skilled human voice in the room."

That's it. No alarm, no urgency, no judgment. Just an observation about what the data shows, and a gentle opening toward another kind of support.

What This Is Not

This suggestion is not a diagnosis. It's not a judgment about your relationship, and it's not a statement about where things are headed. Chosen doesn't have the ability to assess the full context of your lives together — the pattern data is meaningful, but it's limited. The suggestion is an offering, not a verdict.

Many couples who see this suggestion are already doing well in most areas of their relationship. A persistent pattern in one dimension doesn't define the whole. It just means one area has been asking for more attention than self-guided tools alone can give it.

Common questions about this topic

Does a professional support suggestion mean our relationship is in trouble?
No. It means a specific pattern has persisted across several check-ins without resolving. That's a data point, not a diagnosis. Many couples who see this suggestion are otherwise doing well — they simply have one recurring area that might benefit from a different kind of support. The suggestion is offered with care, not alarm.
Can we turn off the professional support suggestion?
Yes. From Chosen → Settings → Suggestions, either partner can mute the professional support suggestion. The mute applies to both partners' views of the combined report. The underlying pattern data continues to be tracked regardless of whether the suggestion is visible.
Is Chosen a replacement for couples support from a professional?
No. Chosen is a self-guided relationship check-in tool. It's designed to help you notice patterns, stay connected, and have better conversations — not to replace the depth and expertise of a trained human professional. For some patterns, a skilled practitioner can offer something Chosen genuinely cannot.
How many check-ins have to go by before the suggestion can appear?
The minimum is three consecutive check-in cycles where the same thorn category is flagged by both partners and remains unresolved. If the thorn resolves — meaning it stops appearing in your entries — the counter resets and the suggestion won't appear for that category.
Will the suggestion keep appearing if we ignore it?
It will appear once per threshold crossing unless you mute it. If the pattern continues and the thorn count increases, a follow-up note may appear in a later report. It's not designed to repeat persistently — just to name the pattern clearly so you can decide how to respond.
